Cost of repairing company cars soars

  Tuesday, 14 August 2012

The cost of fleet car repair bills has more than doubled in the last 18 months, according to new figures from Manheim.

This worrying statistic will concern many fleet operators who have experienced average repair bills for a fleet vehicle increasing from £110 in February 2010 to an eye-watering £246.59 in June 2012.

As yet the cause of this 123 per cent increase is not clear; however experts suggest that the increasing use of older fleet vehicles with higher mileages could be partly to blame.

The valuations of fleet vehicle repairs are based on the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association’s (BVRLA) “fair wear and tear” test, and with an increasing number of businesses choosing to keep their fleets on the road for longer – beyond warrant periods – it is becoming ever more important for fleet operators to keep a close eye on vehicle conditioning.

Whilst fleet values are being driven skywards by a lack of high-quality stock available to fleets looking to upgrade, Adrian Rushmore, pricing expert for Glass’s, believes it no longer makes sense for leasing companies or fleet-owning organisations to accept the rising cost of vehicle repairs.

“With the strength of the market as it is, why spend the money?” he said.

Replacing fleet car parts can be a very expensive problem for businesses who may be forced to buy brand new replacements from garages or dealerships. However, there is a cheaper way for motorists to keep their cars on the road for longer.

At ASM Auto Recycling we proudly stock over 250,000 guaranteed recycled car parts that can be fitted to provide a cost-effective solution for those looking to keep repair costs to a minimum.

Drivers who know their way under a car bonnet will perhaps benefit from this, but it is also possible to buy your used car parts from us and take them to a reputable garage to fit them for you. So not only do you avoid paying full price for a new part from a main dealer you can get a professional to fit it for you on the side.
