Labour charges at record high for car repairs

  Monday, 17 September 2012

If you need your car repairing in the near future you will have to prepare to pay record-high labour charges, according to the latest annual Labour Rates Survey by Warranty Direct.

The average hourly rates at UK garages have now reached an average of £83, stinging the pockets of UK motorists up and down the country.

This announcement comes at a time when the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) is reviewing the fuel market, where petrol prices are also reaching near-record highs. Figures from Warranty Direct’s survey indicate a 3 per cent increase in labour rates from 2011, while rates are said to be 10 per cent higher this year than in 2010.

The survey examined 4,250 franchised and independent garages and noticed a severe fluctuation in rates charged by garages. In Hertfordshire alone labour courts ranged from as little as £36.60 per hour to as high as £201.60.

The report also found the most dramatic rise in labour costs occurred in independent garages, whom in 2011 charged an average of £60.68 per hour and this year charge £64.58 – a 6.44 per cent increase.

Used car owners do not want to have to pay through the nose to get their vehicle back in roadworthy condition. Aside from simply scrapping your car for cash you can also replace problematic parts with recycled car parts. It is a market that appears to be growing in demand all of the time and at ASM Auto Recycling our finger is firmly on the pulse.

With over 250,000 guaranteed recycled car parts drivers can take advantage and purchase a replacement part for their vehicle without breaking the bank. The majority of our used parts are retrieved from damage-repairable vehicles and they are still in good condition, each with a 90-day guarantee. Purchasing used car parts make sound financial sense and are much cheaper than paying through the nose for a new part from a garage or dealership.
