Motorists ‘fed up’ with state of Britain’s roads
Monday, 11 July 2011 Motorists are ‘fed up’ with the condition of Britain’s roads and rising fuel prices and insurance premiums. That is the view of Motors.co.uk following a survey which revealed 82 per cent of drivers were disgruntled with the cost of motoring, endless postholes and continued roadworks.
According to the survey a third of motorists are making an effort to decrease their driving time, while three-quarters feel that the latest Government policies including the Fuel Duty cuts are not supporting them financially at the wheel.
Phil Jones of Motors.co.uk said: “UK consumers are under increasing pressure. However the frustration over roadworks and poor state of the roads shows that it’s not just economic factors that are forcing motorists to use their car less.
“For many people, driving is not a choice but a necessity and if the economy is to recover the Government needs to get back on the side of the motorist and support economic and social mobility.”
The Government pledged £100 million for pothole aid back in March but the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) revealed it would cost the Government up to £8.3 billion to restore the nation’s roads to good health.
Many motorists have been stung by pothole damage to their vehicle which can set them back hundreds of pounds in repair costs. There is also the very real potential for poor road surfaces to cause serious road incidents that could write off expensive vehicles.
End-of-life vehicles are required to be processed in accordance with the European ELV Directive. At ASM Auto Recycling not only does our vehicle dismantling department aid the ‘green’ de-pollution process it also enables our used car parts section to expand, with thousands of recycled parts available to purchase for cost-effective replacements.
